Louisville, NE - The Platte River Battle Royal Marathon, hosted in fine fashion by the CycleWorks/Moose's Tooth crew, was a huge success by all accounts.  Over 70 riders enjoyed the different racing format, many doing a few laps than taking a break with friends, only to go out and do more laps later at a more "conversational" pace.  It offered everyone a chance to push themselves and their limits in an environment that encourages camaraderie and all-around fun!

Cam Kirkpatrick (Rasmussen) took top honors completing 12 laps in 5:59, with Matt Gersib (MonkeyWrench Cycles/Salsa Cycles) coming in second at 12 laps in 6:32.  Jesse Petersen (MonkeyWrench Cycles) & Jim Winklepleck completed 11 laps, and Jeff Bergen rounded out the podium with 10 laps.  Roxzanne Abbott took the women's field with 10 laps in total, just 6 minutes shy of the men's podium.

Complete results are in.  Please note that split times were not available for every rider on every lap.

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"The Race Across The Sky" Leadville Trail 100

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
