At 7pm Friday May 2, THOR and race volunteers completed an assessment of trail conditions. While a muddy race *might* be possible Saturday, a dry race Sunday is way more fun. Current trail conditions are damp enough such that any more rain would make the Saturday race miserable. The race has been postponed to Sunday May 4: Beginner races will start at NOON, Sport & Expert races will start at 2pm. Rest assured that the course is draining water quite quickly, and even if we get more rain Saturday early morning, conditions should be great by Sunday. 2008 E’tape Du Tour
This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
