Sun and gusty winds greeted the 61 riders who tested their early season legs on the new course near Pleasant Dale.
The beginner class started the day off with 23 riders. Joshua Beasley covered the 7.5 mile course in (46:50) followed by Ted Johnson (48:44) and Kris Sonderup in third (50:57). Dakota Giese won the 3.75 mile youth race in 44:59. Tara Johnson took the honors for the women, crossing the line in 59:25, followed by Mollie Mize in 1:08:49. The 11.25 mile, 19 rider strong sport class saw William Mize take top honors with a time of (1:01:00) followed by Dave Draus (1:02:00) and Matthew Wehrwein (1:03:50). Eight riders braved the challenging 11.25 mile course on singlespeeds. The field saw Troy Nelson power away with the win in 1:00:50. Jeff Avey took second place honors (1:05:20) followed by Robert Miller (1:10:52). Darin Schlake set the pace in the 15 mile expert class that no one could match, crossing the line in the time of 1:13:02. Jesse Petersen was second (1:15:22) followed closely by Matt Gersib (1:15:45). The course proved to be a tough early season test but was warmly received. Thank you to all the racers and volunteers who made this race a success. It looks as though the Pedal in the Pasture will become a mainstay on the local racing scene.
