Photo John Peterson Lincoln, Nebr. - NCA President, Midwest Wheelmasters Team Manager and self-proclaimed "occasional racer" John Lefler, Jr. is off to the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA, April 17-20. But he won't be lining up in any of the mutitude of off-road events. He will be close by, calling the action.
"I am thrilled to have this opportunity," said the Lincoln resident. "I lived in Carmel as a kid before we moved to Nebraska. I have family there and Laguna Seca Raceway is probably one of the most picturesque venues for a bike race."
Lefler will be a part of an eight person announcing crew that will call the action and provide the information for thousands of riders that will descend upon the Northern California town for four days of racing both on and off-road.
"Last weekend, I was calling the Spring Cycling Classic and just a few days later I will be in arguably one of the most beautiful places in the world doing it again. Pretty cool," says Lefler, who has also announced at the USAC Cyclo-cross Nationals, NCCA Collegiate National Championships and the Tour of Kansas City.
Lefler hopes the high profile assignment will net him more opportunities in the future.
"I've had conversations with technical directors for other events and I hope to land some other big races. Possibly even this year," says Lefler.
With a background in boradcasting that included a stint on local Lincoln radio stations in the mid-90's, the chance to combine his love of play-by-play announcing with a passion for cycling is one that is not lost on Lefler.
"Seriously, I am being paid to call bike races, it is truly a blessing."

Quick Updates!
Psycowpath Date Swap!
It has recently come to our attention that the traditional race course loop at L&C encroaches on private property in some places. The race course is being rerouted but will need a few more months for completion of a fun and challenging race loop. In September, riders can expect the classic L&C terrain, including miles of familiar trail as well as some freshly laid tracks that will offer a new spin on a classic venue. The Kanesville Krusher Lewis & Clark XC, now on September 27, will serve as the 2008 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series Final.
