Twenty-Year Athletic and Business Professional Joins the Ranks of National Governing Body
Colorado Springs, Colo. - USA Cycling named Nick Adams as Director of Sponsorship and Business Development on Tuesday.
Adams comes to USA Cycling from AG Edwards and Sons, Inc., a national financial consulting firm. Prior to his most recent position, Adams served as the Director of Athletics at Mesa State College and the University of Illinois at Springfield, as well as the Associate Director of Athletics at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Before managing a million-dollar fundraising operation at Mesa State, Adams was directly responsible for cultivating new donors and increasing scholarship endowments, corporate sponsorships and annual donations by an average of 1,500% in less than four years while at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Throughout the course of his 20-year athletic and business career, Adams has continually been responsible for the development of marketing, promotions and fundraising initiatives and possesses a consistent record of securing athletic sponsorships.
As USA Cycling’s Director of Sponsorship and Business Development, Adams’ primary responsibility will be to construct a significant and consistent stream of revenue which will allow the national governing body to better achieve its strategic marketing, sales and fundraising objectives. His main goal is to develop substantial sponsor, supplier and affinity partner relationships within the business and cycling communities. Adams will also lead USA Cycling’s efforts to execute all necessary research, due diligence, business development plans, negotiations and agreements, as well as implement strategic business development programs.
Adams will lead the organization’s sponsorship sales efforts and will be responsible for packaging USA Cycling’s many properties into saleable assets that appeal to and fit the needs of potential corporate partners. Additionally, Adams will guide USA Cycling through its search for affinity partnerships within the cycling industry to add further value to USA Cycling’s membership benefit package.
“Nick’s appointment to Director of Sponsorship and Business Development represents significant progress in the continued evolution of our business development objectives,” explained Steve Johnson, USA Cycling Chief Executive Officer. “With the goal of generating additional revenue to support the implementation and growth of athletic and membership programs, Nick’s experience, knowledge and expertise will serve as a solid foundation on which to enhance the financial success of USA Cycling. We continue to place a great deal of emphasis on creating partnerships within the cycling industry that will ultimately provide greater benefit and value to USA Cycling members. The addition of Nick to the USA Cycling family will considerably improve our efforts to develop high-level corporate partnerships with non-endemic sponsors and valuable relationships within the cycling industry.”
Adams received Bachelor of Science degrees from Southern Illinois University in Education and Recreation before earning his Master of Science degrees in Kinesiology and Sports Management, also from Southern Illinois. He also owns and operates the Grand Valley BMX Track in Grand Junction.
“I’m extremely excited to join USA Cycling and am eager to have a significant impact on the accomplishment of USA Cycling’s strategic business objectives,” added Adams. “I’m hopeful my experience with generating revenue in the sporting industry over the course of my professional career will translate into the same level of success I’ve experienced with collegiate athletics.”
The T. Malouf and Co. Executive Search firm in Denver assisted in the search of Adams and USA Cycling’s pool of applicants.
