The Lincoln Bicycle Co. will open it’s third store in five years April 1, 2005 in St.
Louis, MO.
“TREK Bicycle Store of St. Louis” is the second TREK concept store
developed by Lincoln Bicycle Co. co-owner, Jay Thomas and the TREK Bicycle Corporation. It is among ten TREK
concept stores in the United States. The 6500 square foot store in St. Louis will carry TREK, Klein, Gary Fisher
and Serotta bicycles as well as accessories and clothing from Bontrager, Giro, Nike, Shimano and Yakima. The bikes
carried in-stock will range from $100 kids bicycles to $10,000 custom-built machines. It is the third store
opening for Thomas and his partners, who own bicycle shops in Lincoln and Kansas City, also.
The St. Louis opening follows the successful launch of the TREK Bicycle Store of Kansas City in 2004,
which is operated by Thomas’ business partner and former Lincoln resident, Dan Hansen. “We saw an
opportunity to bring the TREK brand into a market where it was under represented,” says Thomas. “After
our opening in Kansas City, it became obvious that the TREK brand and company support is a powerful one with
cyclists.”
The three store chain is the only independent bike shop dealer, which
operates in three different states in the U.S. This has allowed Thomas and his partners to foster an active
grassroots presence in all three markets. In addition to race sponsorship, Thomas and his stores philanthropic
efforts include work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, MS 150, Leukemia Society and Mountain Bike Little
League. Thomas along with partners, Dan Hansen and Jeff Solich have created a business
model for the cycling retail industry that focuses on identifying with all of the core cycling groups, including
racers, commuters, children and their parents.
“Our goal with all of our stores is
to provide our customers with an “open” environment that fosters a sense of community,” explains
Thomas. “We support a community in motion and want our customers to feel welcome whether they are shopping
or stopping in before or after a ride.” |
