Another Hors Categorie (beyond classification) climb today for Midwest Cycling Community members Kent McNeill and Steve Jarrett as they prepare for the Etape Du Tour. Recon was the goal today. This time, up to the summit of the Port de Bales. This climb will be featured for the first time this year in the 15th stage of the Tour De France from Foix to Loudenvielle.
The climb was 19+km long and had pitches from 15-17% in areas. The average for the last 10km was 10+% and very narrow. Once you broke above the tree for the last 3km the pitch mellowed to a lovely 7.5%.
