Sunny skies and nice temps greeted the 100 plus riders at this past weekends MetrO! Mountain Bike Challenge presented by the Midwest Cycling Community. The weekend kicked off Saturday with free bike demo's from Trek's Ride the Best Demo Tour and the Trek and Highgear Bicycle Stores of Omaha. Sunday's cross country challenge brought out many first time riders and introduced them to the wonderful world of mountain bike racing. Record numbers of women and junior riders tested their skills on some of the best singletrack in the metro. Jess McCleary, Jennifer Burke and Oliver Banta took top honors in the beginner category event. Christine Bixby and Jeff Hopkins took charge of the intermediate field while Roxanne Abbott and Darin Schlake brought home the women's and men's advanced category. The highlight of day was the hotly contested kids 8 and under event. 20 kids, tearing down the trail kicking up a huge dust cloud is enough to bring a smile to anyone's face!
The MetrO! Mountain Bike Challenge is an event series designed for beginner riders to experienced trail users. The next event is sure to challenge even the most advanced riders as we head to the Lake Manawa trails for the inaugural MMBC 12 hours of Lake Manawa. Categories include solo, two person team, four person same sex or five person coed team. or unlimited team. Grab your friends and join us September 15 for a day of fun on bikes! go to http://www.metrombcmanawa12.blogspot.com/ for details.
