Twilight Criterium Coming to Papillion Print E-mail

Papillion - Get ready for twilight criterium racing in the Big O! The City of Papillion, The Papillion Community Foundation and Alegent Health/Midlands Hospital have come together for a day of fun and fitness, Saturday, July 14. The Papillion Twilight Criterium (Nebraska ROY event) boasts Nebraska's largest single day cash prize purse with $5000 up for grabs including $2000 for the Men Category 1/2 race!

The Papillion Twilight Criterium will be held in conjunction with the Alegent Health/Midlands Hospital Health Fair in Downtown Papillion, near 3rd & Washington Street. The Health Fair will feature information, demonstrations and free diagnostic checks. Festivities will run throughout the day with the criterium racing beginning at 3:00pm and concluding with the 60-minute Men 1/2 race at 8:00pm. Race categories include: Men Masters 35+/45+/55+, Men 5, Men 4, Women, Men 3 and Men 1/2.

Pre-registration is required for the Papillion Twilight Criterium and will open on www.velosource.com Monday, July 2 at 12:00p.m. CDT. Registration closes Saturday, July 14 at 12:00a.m. CDT. Mail-in entries will be accepted, too.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
