The  second  round of the MetrO! Mountain Bike Challenge presented by the Midwest Cycling Community kicks off this weekend,  June 30-July 1 . So grab the family and come out for a fun day at the Swanson park mountain bike trails.

The weekend isn't just for mountain bikers.  We'll start the weekend off with Trek's Ride the Best Demo Tour.  Come out and test ride Trek's all new MADONE road bike as well as Lemond's Tete de Course.  For you off-road junkies you'll want to come out and see Gary Fisher's brand new line of Hi Fi twenty niner's and new Paragon and Ferrous two niner's.  Trek Fuel EX 9.5's and HiFi 26's will be available as well.

The MetrO! Mountain Bike Challenge will kick off Sunday at 1:00pm (registration opens at 12:00pm). Entry is only $10 and no license is required. All paid entrants will receive an event water bottle and pair of socks. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 in each category. Mom or dad race free with each entered child. This is a great event to see if racing is for you. If you love it, take the leap and join us July 7th for the second round of the Psycowpath series at Lake Manawa S.P. in Council Bluffs.

Featured Stories

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"The Race Across The Sky" Leadville Trail 100

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
