Odell, NE -- Tim Farnham (Nebraska Medical Center/Team Kaos) won the opening day of the 2007 Monumental Memorial Cycling Weekend with an impressive solo breakaway performance in the Gage County Road Race.

Attacking on lap three of the 60-mile Men 1/2/3 road race, Farnham grew his advantage over the field to close to 2:00 in less than one lap.

"I had tried two minor attacks in the opening laps, but the group was really responsive," explained Farnham. "I knew I did not want to try to get away in the headwind, so I had to go in the crosswind section."

Farnham, who recently moved to Petalume, CA for work, returned to Nebraska for the first time this season to visit family and friends.

The homecoming was far from hospitable with temperatures hovering in the mid-50's and heavy rains falling prior to the race start.

However, within minutes of the riders setting off, the skies cleared for the duration of the event. Rain is forecast overnight with the chance of showers diminshing to less than 10% by the start of tomorrow's Old West Trail Time Trial.
