Remember those August days of sunshine and a warm breeze in your face as you blast through a corner on perfectly groomed singletrack? Remember trying to keep up with your buddy as your tires ever so carefully slide sideways through a dusty corner?  Well, maybe the corner wasn't dusty last year, but you knew you were having a good time....  The days of seeing all those familiar faces and rippin through the singletrack are right around thr corner...

The 2007 Psycowpath Mountain Bike Series is set to get started at Tranquility Park in Omaha on April 7.  After a brutally cold and precipitous winter, riders are eager to see their friends and competitors line up and find out who really spent time on the bike during the past few months. Since 1990, the "Psycowpath" mountain bike events have served as the official race series for Nebraska.  Whether you are a seasoned off-road rider or new to the sport, the Psycowpath MTB Series provides riders of all ages and abilities the opportunity to experience the best in Nebraska mountain-bike racing!

The 2007 Psycowpath Series features eight events this year.  Six are traditional cross country events, and by popular demand, the marathon format is back!  Riders from junior beginners to national championship pros checked out the marathon races last year, to rave reviews.  Every event saw riders enjoying great music, friends, and rippin singletrack.  You gotta check it out in 2007:

2007 Psycowpath Schedule of Events is as follows:

April 7, Tranquility Tire Tantrum XC, Tranquility Park, Omaha- Hosted by Bike Masters Cycling Club
May 5, River City Shootout XC, Swanson Park, Bellevue- Hosted by Midwest Cycling Community
May 12, Battle Royal 6 Hour Marathon, Platte River S.P., South Bend- Hosted by Cycleworks/Moose's Tooth
June 2, Kanesville Krusher XC, Lewis & Clark Monument, Council Bluffs, IA- Hosted by The Bike Way Racing
June 23, Ponca's Revenge 4 Hour Marathon, Ponca S.P., Ponca, NE- Hosted by Sioux City Velo
July 7, Manawa Mountain Bike Mayhem, Lake Manawa S.P., Council Bluffs, IA- Hosted by River City Cycles/Omaha Velo
August 11, Maskenthine XC Classic, Maskenthine Lake, Nofolk, NE- Hosted by Elkhorn Valley Cycling Club
August 25, Swanson State Championship XC, Swanson Park, Bellevue- Hosted by Midwest Wheelmasters

Each XC race features categories, race mileage and durations appropriate for everyone from entry level riders to seasoned veteran racers.  Marathon racers feature longer events, and riders usually ride at a slower pace to conserve energy-- rather than trying to be fast, they attempt to endure a longer race.  Psycowpath first featured marathon style events in 2006, and they proved to be popular both with veteran racers as well as many beginners.

Stay tuned for more detailed information regarding the race series, including a Racer's Bible available online soon.

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"The Race Across The Sky" Leadville Trail 100

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
