The fun (and pain) continues this weekend as rounds #2 and #3 of the Cow Town Cyclocross Series will take place along the Missouri River at the beautiful E.H. Young Riverfront Park. The signature event of the series, the Riverside Cyclocross Festival, takes place November 4th and 5th and will feature a classic cyclo-cross course, free food and drinks, a beginners cyclo-cross clinic, custom awards, cow bells and over $2000.00 in cash, awards, primes and prizes.

The 1.6 mile course designed by event director Chris Locke features a barrier free course, but has several natural features that "may" require a dismount. "I am an old school cross racer and like to design courses that test a riders technical ability as well has their fitness and race savvy" Sections like Harter’s Horseshoe, Paceline’s Freeway, Garmin’s G-out and the Sugar Sand Pit do just that.

Former winners of the "Elite" class include National CX champion Steve Tilford and 3 time champion Chad Smith. The best riders in the Midwest will lineup this weekend for another classic battle along the Missouri River banks.

Flyers can be downloaded at www.cowtowncycling.com, www.localcycling.com and www.kscycling.org.

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"The Race Across The Sky" Leadville Trail 100

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
