As you can tell there is a new look to NebraskaCycling. There is also some major improvements to the way everything functions. There is a new calendar, classifieds, forums, and a whole lot more.

For those who had a login with the old forum, your username and password should work with this whole site now. One login will get you in the new forum and the classifieds. And if you are a contributor to the site the login will get you to submit your articles, calendar dates, and documents like race announcements in a pdf format.

Another new functions to the site is the RSS (Really Simple Syndication). Using RSS NebraskaCycling is able to provide news to your RSS reader. Lookup RSS reader in Google. I use Thunderbird for my email and it also has a RSS reader. Thunderbird is a great alternative to Outlook. It has a spam filter and won't run virus like Outlook. Checkout Thunderbird at Mozilla.org it's free. The other way NebraskaCycling is using RSS to bring news headlines from others like USA Cycling and Velo News. NebraskaCycling is a great place to get your cycling news.

The classified section is a lot better now. Post your and you get a email to confirm your ad. It will be out there for 17days and then will automatically delete. You can extend your ad and also remove your after you sell it. This is done with some links in your confirmation email so keep it until you have sold your item.

The Events Calendar will be easier to manage new. So it will include everything with a bicycle; races, tours, and multi-sport events. There are couple ways to view the calendar, I suggest playing around with it. You will also notice on the left side there's a couple small calendars, this month and the next month. The dates highlighted in blue are event dates that are clickable.

There's a lot going here so I suggest click around and see where every thing is located. And if you see something that you would like to see different or if there is a problem, send an email to John Peterson. There is still a few more content items to be added and these should be there by the end of the weekend.

Featured Stories

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"The Race Across The Sky" Leadville Trail 100

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
