Sioux City Bicycle Racing Team Is In Training

Sioux City has its very own amateur bicycle racing team that is sanctioned by USA Cycling under the club name of Sioux City Velo. The Team will race under the sponsored name of PowerAde-Independent Fabrication throughout the Midwest in both road and off road races. “Our primary objective is to promote bicycle racing in the Siouxland area” says Cody McCullough, club president and Siouxland resident. Other Team members are Jay Chesterman (Sioux City), Jay Friday (Mason City), Robert Greigg (Sioux City), Sam Johnson (Sioux City), Todd Juhlin (Mason City), Brent Linn (Sioux City), Cody McCullough (Sioux City), Bill Mize (Sioux City), Molly Mize (Sioux City), Geoff Nelson (Sioux City), Jon Nelson (Sioux City) and Erik Peterson (Sioux City).

The Team has gained a hearty interest from sponsors. PowerAde sports drinks is the main sponsor along with Independent Fabrication, a company that specializes in building custom bicycle frames. Sioux City’s Albrecht Cycle Shop is providing support to the racers along with Shimano, a bicycle component manufacturer, and Rudy Project, a helmet and sunglass company. North Iowa Oral Surgery Associates, P.C. has given a contribution to cover clothing and other costs.

Starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday December 20th and continuing this winter when the temps are low, group stationary bike training rides will take place at  The Cathedral of the Risen Christ Gym located at 3245 S 37th St, aka 37th & Sheridan Blvd. Bring your bike, stationary trainer, something to protect the floor from your stand (mat, towel) and some change as a free will for lights.  Monsignor Tucker has made this location available.  We will have a big screen showing cycling DVDs.  You can come as early as 7:00 to set up, and we will be ending around 9:30 and out by 10:00.  Feel free to come and go as you please during the session.

The Gym floor needs to be protected.  Please remove your shoes if they have cleats.
