Lincoln, NE -- Tony Wilhelm (LBC/Highgear) rode to a second straight victory sunday afternoon in the fourth round of the Nebraska Cyclo-cross Series at Pioneers Park in southwest Lincoln.

Wilhelm exploded off the line and stretched the 17-rider field early on in the 60-minute contest with only Brad Cole (Team X Cycling) able to hold the intense pace. The two grew their advantage to :30 on the chase group of Shadd Smith (HRRC/Maclaren/Bikesource) and Wilhelm's teammate Jay Thomas, who was looking to improve upon the previous day's disappointing finish. Nearly 1-minute back, a group of eight riders including, Adam Mills (HRRC/Maclaren/Bikesource), Jon Randell (Lincoln Plating-Lemond) and Darin Schlake (Monkeywrench Cycles/KONA) battled for the final step on the podium. With four laps to go, Mills powered off the front on his way to fifth place. At the front of affairs, Wilhelm and Cole continued to match blows until Cole washed out at the foot of the "Hooligan Hill" run-up with two laps to go. Wilhelm pulled away to grab his second victory in the 2005 Nebraska Cyclo-cross Series. Cole held on to finish secoond with Smith winning the two-up sprint for third over Thomas.

Other top finishers: Thad Neill (Team 14/Pedro's) in Men B, Randall Crist (BBC/Bike Way), Stephen Songer (Team X) in Men 35+, Doug Larson (Bike Masters) in Men 45+, John Dean (LBC/Highgear) in Men 55+, Stacey Hallman (TREK Store of KC) in Women's, Alex Kitner (LBC/Highgear) in Junior Men 13-15 and Tyler Carmichael (LBC/Highgear) in Singlespeed.

The Nebraska Cyclo-cross Series continues December 17-18 with the series finale at Branched Oak Lake near Raymond.

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
