With the weather changing and cooler temps prevailing, it is a good idea to take inventory before packing that travel bag for the 'cross races.

Carmen D'Alusio (Clif Bar) provides a great checklist:

Winter cap
Cycling cap
Rain jacket (waterproof)
Rain pants (waterproof)
Windbreaker
Thermal jacket
Choice of Base layers to wear underneath
Long sleeve jersey
Short sleeve jersey (minimum 2)
Arm warmers
Knee warmers
Leg warmers (2 pair)
Socks (3 pair)
Booties
Gloves to suit the weather conditions
Glasses with different lens options
Race towel for cleanup post race
warming cream for legs (Bjorn)
Replacement cleats and spikes for shoes

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
