Jesse Petersen (Monkeywrench/Moots) broke away in the final lap to win the Expert Men's MTB event at the Cornhusker State Games, Saturday afternoon at Branched Oak Lake, Area 7 near Raymond.

Wind, heat and rough trail conditions greeted the (76) off-road cyclists that lined up for the XC Mountain Bike races at the traditional home of the CSG MTB event, Area 7 at Branched Oak Lake. The 3.5 mile circuit, which was extremely dry created very loose riding conditions in many turns. Trail conditions that suited the styles of Petersen and teammate Matt Gersib (Monkeywrench/KONA). From the gun, the two riders surged to the front and quickly established a powerful ryhthm as they dropped into the tight singletrack. Paul Chapman (Cycle Works/Moose's Tooth) followed with the rest of the field quickly dropping into place for their 24.5 mile, 7 lap contest. Petersen and Gersib worked together to extend their advantage on the field before Petersen jumped away from his riding partner with one lap to go. Petersen crossed the line 1:10:21. Gersib finished second :49 back.
