The second round of the 2005 Psycowpath MTB Series presented by the Nebraska Lottery is this Saturday, May 21 at Lewis & Clark Monument in Council Bluffs. Races will kick-off at 10:00am with the Beginner classes, followed at 11:00am by the Sport Classes and Singlespeed and the day will conclude with the Expert Classes at 1:00pm. A departure from the relatively flat course at Swanson Park in Bellevue, which hosted the series opener, the course at Lewis & Clark Monument is a hilly, technically challenging circuit. Two different "skill-level appropriate" routes will be employed for the event with the Beginner Classes racing a shorter 3.5 mile track. The Sport and Expert Classes will contest their events on a 5-mile circuit.  Registration for the "Kanesville Krusher" is available on-site as well as massages from the Rocky Mountain Connection and fantastic BBQ from the Smoke Shack.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Located in the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River this course offers enough long downhill sections and equally long climbs to test riders of all abilities. THOR, the local IMBA trail club, has done an outstanding job of designing and maintaining the trail system. The competition will be fierce and so is the course. The race loops kick off at the top of the bluff with a downhill run through deep gullies and bermed turns that will eventually end at the very bottom of the course. A series of switchback climbs and acid-relieving downhill stretches gradually take you back to the top. Hold on to your water bottle! The last climb to the finish is a 200 yard gut buster known as Mount Never-rest!

RACE DISTANCES:
Beginner: 30-40 minutes
Sport: 75-90 minutes
Expert: 120+ minutes

Sport/Expert race loop is approximately 5 miles.
Beginner/First Timer race loop is 3.5 miles.

THE VENUE
The Council Bluffs Parks and Rec. Dept. has done a beautiful job renovating the monument! It extends to the edge of a bluff where you can see the river and the Omaha skyline in full view. There are modern bathrooms, running water, and a phone at the monument. Parking is not allowed at the monument during the race so plan on parking along the road and walking up the hill to the staging area.

DIRECTIONS:
Take I-29 to the north side of Council Bluffs. Take the north 25th St exit. Go south (towards the gas stations) on 25th St to Ave G. Go east(left) on Ave G to 8th St. Go north(left) on 8th St until it curves to the east and turns into Mynster Springs Rd. Continue east to Monument Rd. Go south (left) to the park.
