Riders braved high winds in Saturdays first event in the Ak-Sar-Ben Time Trial Series. Over 50 racers participated in the 20-mile Individual Time Trial, part of the Nebraska Cycling Association's "Rider of the Year" competition. Racers first headed north and up steep hills, but at the first turn-around, everyone felt the rush of the headwind. On top of the hills, wind exposure kept speeds well below 15 mph at times.
Rain came only briefly, for the last few minutes of the race, and clearly did not keep competitors from a strong finish. In the Cat 1-2-3 field, Jeff Luedtke (HRC/Olympia) continued his dominance of the discipline with a time of 44:55, followed closely by Mike Munson (Highgear/LBC) at 46:03. Finishing third was Ian Robertson (Team KAOS) with a time of 48:49. Buck Hood (Ciao Baby) led the Cat IV event at 49:07, Jordan Brasch (Team KAOS) took the Masters field with a time of 50:40. Brad Dienstbier (HRC/Olympia) won the Cat V event at 52:48, and Morgan Chaffin (Team KAOS) took the Womens field at 57:27.
Thanks to all members of the Benson Bike Club/Bike Way race team for their efforts in hosting the event. Be sure to check back for more information on the next installment of the Ak-Sar-Ben TT Series, to be held on June 25. Inquiries can be made to ryanfeagan@hotmail.com.
