In the last couple of years Keith Bontrager has been pretty busy. As chief designer for Bontrager Wheelworks and Components, Keith has equipping Lance Armstrong’s Tour de France winning bikes with race winning gear. As images of Lance and his bike are flashed across television sets around the world, the name Bontrager has become synonymous with quality cycling equipment.

His work with Lance has brought Keith some fame, but Bontrager has worked tirelessly behind the scenes of cycling for over two decades. Bontrager’s company started in his Santa Cruz, CA garage making lightweight components for the relatively new sport of mountain biking. Within mountain biking circles, Keith quickly became known for his quality components and stringent testing standards.

Keith soon starting manufacturing his own bicycle frames. These bicycles are now prized collectors items, each one considered a work of art. Bontrager’s company was eventually purchased by Wisconsin based Trek Bicycle Corporation. Freed from many of the business concerns of running a small company, Keith was able to focus on his true love of design.

Today his components are the best in the world, as shown by their elite position on Armstrong’s race bike. Keith is touring the Midwest this month giving a series of presentations on cycling’s history and future, and his involvement with the world’s premier cyclist.
Keith will appear Tuesday May17 at the Trek Bicycle Store in Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday May 18 at the Trek Bicycle Store in St. Louis at 7:00 p.m... Each evening will feature a presentation followed by questions from the audience. Each event will also include a charity raffle to raise money for local cycling trails. Beverages will be provided by each store.  Each store will be closed during the event but will be open for sales during the evening in store specials on select Bontrager items only.

Media are invited to both events or are welcome to plan separate personal interviews on Tuesday or Thursday. Please contact Jay Thomas at (402) 770-6427 to schedule appointments.

For advance phone interviews call Ryan Atkinson with Bontrager Wheelworks and Components at (920) 478-2191 ext 12016.
