Note: Updated Junior information - 9/4/2008 at 8:30pm
One key factor to racing this weekend is leaving home early. This Saturday is a Husker game day, so the Interstate from Omaha to Lincoln along I-80 will be very busy. Game time is 11:30am which is two and half hours prior to the road race start times. The likelihood of extra traffic is great from any direction, so plan ahead.
Originally the state road race championships were to be held on the course between Elmwood and Murdock. Problems with support from the community it was time to for a change. TeamFIRE will be bringing the state championship road race to the former course around Branched Oak which could be a welcomed one for anyone that likes a tough course. The flattest part of the course is the dam and that always has a cross wind coming off the lake. There’s no hiding from this course.
Weather shouldn’t be a huge factor with the high of 75 and partly cloudy for Saturday. Looks like a great day for a road race.
First race goes off at 9:00am with the last one goes off at 9:06am leaving from Liebers Point. The Pro, 1, 2 field will be one lap longer than other times the state road race has been held around Branched Oak Lake at 7 laps, 84 miles. The same could be said for the other categories.
A note for the juniors: The juniors race has been shorted to 2 laps which is about 26 miles. The original distance was thought to be too long. Junior riders will race in one of the following age categories: 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18. Juniors will race together for the two laps, but will be placed separately. Separate medals will be awarded for each category.
Another exciting offer, first time racers receive 50% off the entry fee. A discount code is necessary; more information is available on the registration page at sportsbaseonline.com. Please note the discount is for race entry fee only and does not apply to one day licenses. One day licenses must be purchased in order to participate and are also available online. So tell your friends that have been on the fence about doing their first road race.
Online registration closes Friday September 5th at 6:00pm. Day of registration will be available from 7:30-8:30am for an additional $10 and no discounts will be applied.
