Wilhelm, Neville Cross Cup Series Champs
Steve Tilford (HRRC/Maclaren/Bikesource)
stormed to his
second Mid-America Cross Cup win of the series saturday afternoon at
Pierson Park in Kansas
City. In a duplicate performance of the Nebraska
Cyclo-cross State Championships in Lincoln last weekend,
Tilford pulled
away from the field despite taking a spill early in the 60 minute
contest. "It was a
tough course," said Tilford, who was able to hold
off teammate Shadd Smith and Cross Cup Series Champion,
Anthony Wilhelm
(LBC/Highgear). Wilhelm celebrated a triumphant return to midwest cross
racing after
spending last season in New England learning the ropes.
Catherine Walberg (Kenda) grabbed her
second Cross Cup victory
over E.C. Sunflower rider, Jennifer Tilley in the Women's A race. Team
Kaos
rider, Marie Neville held on to the top spot in the Women's points
competition.
Mark Studnicki
(Cowtown Cycling), Thomas Price (All Ireland
Cycling) and Kevin Burke (LBC/Highgear) fired up their battle one
more
time with another fast and impressive race in the Masters 35+ event.
Price suffered a puncture, which
forced him out of the event, while
Studnicki rolled to another win and the series title.
The
2005 Mid-America Cross Cup schedule will be announced in January.
