But you might also say the maillot jaune can bestow a curse on its wearer.
David Zabriskie isn’t the first rider wearing yellow to crash at the Tour and lose the jersey. In fact, he’s not even the first yellow jersey winner to crash in the team time trial. |

Make them earn every inch.
Those were the words that came to mind as I watched the closing kilometers of today's stage. Erik Dekker and Nicolas Portal were off the front, trying to squeeze out a victory against a feverishly chasing field.
I found myself in a similar position in the Silver City Road Race back in 1991. After the first of three 13-mile loops, another rider and I broke away just as we passed through Silver City. At one point, the field was out of sight and we thought we might stay away for the final two laps.

Tom Boonen created somewhat of a stir earlier this year when VeloNews featured him on the cover of its April 25th issue. Titled "Boom, Boom! Boonen does the double at Flanders and Roubaix" many readers wondered if the magazine had doctored the picture because of Boonen’s unusually large arm muscles. A couple of weeks later, VeloNews denied "Photoshopping" the picture, saying the bumpy terrain of the road caused the riders’ arms to be distorted. Judging by the way Boonen thrust his arms into the air after winning today’s stage, the guy has some pretty decent "guns" — manipulated or not. |

I've only met Dave Zabriskie once. It was at the Interbike show last October in Las Vegas. He was sitting at a booth to sign autographs. There are many sponsors at the world's biggest bike show who have "big names" at their booths. But Zabriskie (before today) was hardly one of them.
