MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ROAD RACING COMES TO NEBRASKA; MAY 27-29 Print E-mail

Beatrice, NE -- The 1st Annual Monumental Memorial Cycling Weekend is set for May 27-29, 2006 in and around Beatrice and Gage County, NE.

Not since the "Homestead Cycling Classic," which was held in Beatrice in the late 1980's has their been a road race in Nebraska over the Memorial Day Weekend.

The 3-day, 4-stage event will feature two road races, an individual time trial and a final day criterium in and around Beatrice, NE. The Beatrice Chamber of Commerce and Gage County Visitors Bureau will serve as hosts for the weekend.

"The Monumental Memorial Cycling Weekend will give riders from across the Midwest an opportunity to see firsthand the strong road cycling scene that we have built in Nebraska," says Race Director, John Lefler, Jr. "The race format and courses will provide the backdrop for an exciting weekend of racing."

VeloTech Finish Line Services will provide timing and finish line support for the entire weekend.

Johnson named USA Cycling CEO Print E-mail

Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 4, 2006)—Gerard Bisceglia resigned as Chief Executive Officer of USA Cycling on Tuesday. Former Director of Athletics and Chief Operating Officer Steve Johnson has been named by the USA Cycling Board of Directors as Bisceglia’s replacement. Johnson served as interim CEO from May of 2002 until July of 2002 prior to Bisceglia’s appointment.

“Gerard is responsible for moving USA Cycling in a positive direction over the past four years,” commented Jim Ochowicz, President of the USA Cycling Board of Directors. "Steve Johnson has the full support of the Board of Directors and the organization will continue to move in the same positive direction that it has in the last four years. USA Cycling has a talented, committed and knowledgeable staff that will assure a bright future for our organization and we are looking forward to what lies ahead.”

The 2006 edition will feature a stage race format for ALL categories!

The 5th Annual Lincoln Plating Spring Cycling Classic is set for Saturday & Sunday, April 22-23 on the roads in and around Lincoln.  The 2-day stage race will feature a road race and individual time trial on saturday and a circuit race on sunday. The stage race format will apply to ALL categories including Men 5, Men Masters 45+ and Men Masters 55+, who were not included in the stage race format last year. 

The Lincoln Plating Spring Cycling Classic will once again be designated as a Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic Series race as well as a Northern Collegiate Cycling Conference event. Hosted by the UNL Cycling Club, the NCCC stage race features a road race, team time trial and circuit race.

Starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday December 20th and continuing this winter when the temps are low, group stationary bike training rides will take place at  The Cathedral of the Risen Christ Gym located at 3245 S 37th St, aka 37th & Sheridan Blvd. Bring your bike, stationary trainer, something to protect the floor from your stand (mat, towel) and some change as a free will for lights.  Monsignor Tucker has made this location available.  We will have a big screen showing cycling DVDs.  You can come as early as 7:00 to set up, and we will be ending around 9:30 and out by 10:00.  Feel free to come and go as you please during the session. 

The Gym floor needs to be protected.  Please remove your shoes if they have cleats.
