With Lewis & Clark race being cancelled, the Psycowpath series will have a total of 6 XC races in 2008. Each racer is allowed to drop two of the 6 total so final points will be calculated from each racer's four best scores. Only racers who completed at least four Psycowpath events will be eligible for Series Medals of 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.
There are two races left in the 2008 season. A new venue, Area 7 at Branched Oak Lake on Sept 13th, and our beloved Lake Manawa will finish out the season on Sept 27! Two more races and two more chances to edge out your competitors! Stay tuned to NebraskaCyclingNews.com for series points updates and info on upcoming events!

Nearing the end of the race it was Cam Kirkpatrick ( Rasmussen/Orbea) and Kent McNeill (Midwest Cycling Community) fighting it out for first place. Cam drops the hammer on the last lap to take first. Photo John Peterson The fourth race in the Psycowpath Mtb Series, the Tranquility Tire Tantrum served up some fast and exciting mountain bike racing along with the blistering 96 degrees weather. With the lack of any recent precipitation in rescent days made for very dusty conditions.
The highly contested Expert race was lead off with Kevin Limpach (Midwest Cycling Community) of Omaha, Nebr taking the hole shot along with Darin Schlake (Monkey Wrench) of Lincoln, Nebr and Kent McNeill (Midwest Cycling Community) of Omaha, Nebr. close behind on the first lap. In the end it came down to Cam Kirkpatrick (Rasmussen/Orbea) of Urbandale, IA and Kent McNeill to battle it out. Kent McNeill took second and was with Cam until midway through the last lap, losing 20 twenty seconds to Cam. Coming off of the Leadville 100 Kent said “My legs were still a bit tired, but I felt pretty good. Cam put the hammer down on the last lap and I tried to go with him, but my legs ached quite a bit and I was just unable to respond.” Cam is currently leading the Psycowpath Series.

One of the most popular XC courses in the metro area serves as the venue of choice as the 2008 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series gets rolling again this Saturday August 16! What started as a few interested bikers in conversations with City of Omaha officials, the Tranquility Park course just north of 120th & Fort Streets in Omaha sees dozens of riders each week from throughout Omaha and surrounding areas. The course has something for everyone with tree covered switchbacks, a long climb or two, some rippin descents and knee draggin corners. It's close proximity to neighborhoods has made it a popular destination for the after work ride and workout for both first time mtber's and veteran racers.
Hosted by Bike Masters Cycling Club, the Beginner's Race & 3 Hour Race start at 10am, just $15 entry fee-- no license required! FREE Kids Race kicks off at 11:20, with Singlespeed, Sport, Expert Races starting at noon. The Tranquility Tire Tantrum is one of the near record setting courses for the Nebraska Lottery Series, with over 140 riders in attendance in 2007-- and you don't want to miss the 2008 edition, featuring cheaper entry fees for beginners, a 3 hour option for the long haul riders, food, music, and fun, right in your backyard!!

The postponed Nebraska Lottery/Psycowpath races at Manawa and Lewis and Clark Monument have changed again.
The Manawa Mayhem race will go back to it's original date of September 27th, and will be hosted by Velo Veloce.
The race at Lewis & Clark is cancelled for 2008. The main reason for the cancellation is due to the need to reroute the entrance. This has been slowed due to weather delays and a change-over in Council Bluff's Parks and Recreation Department. Psycowpath felt in order for THOR to do it's job properly and without pressure, removing the race from the calendar was the best solution. We'll miss it but the hope is that it will be back bigger and better next year.
In the meantime, get ready for the next XC race at Ponca. It's been a marathon event the last few seasons. We suspect this year we're going to see a record turnout. With Jay and his Sioux City Velo crew in charge, we have no doubts!
See you on the start line!
