Vande Velde 17th, Hincapie 40th as Pre-Race Favorite Spain Delivers Gold Medal
 

usac-logoBeijing, China - The 2008 U.S. Olympic Team opened competition on Saturday with the men's road race in which Levi Leipheimer (Santa Rosa, Calif.) placed 11th to record the team's best finish.  After enduring temperatures in the mid 90's with 85% humidity throughout the six-and-a-half hour race, Leipheimer finished 20 seconds off the pace of a six-man lead group.

National Team Members Successful in Race Against the Clock as 2008 Road Nationals Begin


Alison Powers (Boulder, Colo./Colavita-Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light) fulfilled a goal set seven months ago on Wednesday when she won the national title in the elite women's time trial at the 2008 USA Cycling Junior, U23 and Elite Road National Championships in Irvine, Calif. against a field of 33 women.

All teams now announced for September race

A pair of North Carolina races marked the 28th and 29th events on the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar, August 2 and 3. Alejandro Borrajo (ARG) came away with the pro men's victory at the Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium in Charlotte on July 2, while Katharine Carroll (Sausalito, Calif.) won the women's contest. Nine National Champions Honored at Ultra-Endurance Off-Road Race

Wausau, Wis. -- Nine national champions were crowned at the USA Cycling 24-Hour Mountain Bike National Championships on Sunday morning after the nation's best ultra-endurance off-road cyclists wrapped up 24 grueling hours on the trails of Wisconsin's Nine Mile County Forest.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
