Swanson Park continues to draw beginners and would-be first time racers, in anticipation of the competition.  Expert rider Greg Shimonek continues to train there in hopes of maintaining peak fitness, and with an optimism that this may finally be a course on which he can win over favorites Cam Kirkpatrick and Steve Jarrett.  Beginner and Junior categories start at 10am, while Sport and Expert categories start at noon.  Stay tuned to Nebraskacyclingnews.com for additional information.

The 2006 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series will wrap up with a bang, with the State Championship XC on September 16th followed closely by the Sept 23rd "Race in the Cave" Marathon event at Indian Cave State Park.

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
