The 2006 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath Series continues this Saturday, June 24, with the most popular event in the series.  The Swanson River City Shootout XC always attracts a lot racers—from highly trained experts to weekend warriors—due to the super fun, fast, and accessible trail system found in Swanson Park.  This years edition, hosted by the Cycling Club of Nebraska, is set to be a record-breaking event.  After a disappointing rain-out in late April, the Cycling Club of Nebraska is ready to make this event the best yet!  THOR representatives Martin and Christine Bixby have been working hard all spring to keep Swanson’s trails in top notch, race-ready condition.  The course is in better shape than it’s ever been in mid-June—come and see what all the talk is about!

Swanson Park, in Belleve, NE, is just minutes from the center of Omaha and makes a popular stop for riders of all abilities—for a quick ride in the evening, or a longer ride on the weekends, this park is accessible and fun!  Swanson Park has a nice playground for the kiddies and lots of open field for them or your dog to run. There is a porta-potty on location and a large shaded shelter with tables. This is a great place to walk dog or hike the trails and watch the racers battle it out up close.

The Beginner and Junior race takes off at 10am, with Sport, Singlespeed, and Expert races starting at noon.  Complete race/series details can be found in the Race Bible available here.

Directions:
Take Hwy 75 south from I-80 to the Cornhusker Rd. exit. Go west on Cornhusker to approximately 34th St. Look for a brick sign with scrolling red letters for the Fire Department Training Center. Turn north and the park entrance is about 75 yards down the road on the left.

For more information, contact Cycling Club of Nebraska representative Steve Massara at 402-630-4933, or email uscfracer83@aol.com .  For series information, contact Ryan Feagan at 402-415-9071 or email ryan.feagan@gmail.com .

Kent McNeill along with a few others have been busy the last month and a half. France last month and Leadville 100 this month. Kent was kind enough to regale us with his account of their adventures.

2008 E’tape Du Tour

This year was supposed to be easier. I suppose in terms of mileage and total elevation gain, it was. Our route from Pau over the Tourmalet and then to the top of Hautacam was 108 miles with 11,600 feet of climbing. The past couple of years our routes have been from 125-150 miles with 13,000 to 14,000 feet of climbing and we have ridden in extreme heat conditions. This swung us to the other end of the spectrum. Hypothermia!

"Your from Nebraska?" the gal at medical check in asked. "Yes" Steve replied. "So you’re taking the high altitude medication Diamox then?" she asked. "No" Steve replied, having never heard of it. "Oh Boy!" she said with a tone of amazement and worry. "Good Luck!"
