Norfolk, Neb. – In an impressive display of power, Lincoln Plating-Lemond’s Jon Randall stamped his authority on the Norfolk Classic by easily winning a bunch sprint in the road race and powering to victory in the afternoon time trial.
Those results give the Omahan a 28-second advantage over Team Kaos’ Marco Vasquez with only Sunday’s 75-minute criterium remaining.
“Jon was very strong today,” Vasquez said. “He has a good lead. It’s always possible (to make up the time deficit) but it’s going to be difficult. There’s only nine people in the Pro-I-II field, but it (the criterium) is also a solo breakaway-type course.
Sunday’s final stage is a fast, eight-corner affair through the streets of downtown Norfolk. The first race begins at 9 a.m., with the Pro-I-II field going off at 1 p.m. More than 70 competitors from seven Midwest states are racing in the two-day, three-stage inaugural event. Complete first-day results and the communique can be downloaded at the bottom of this story.

Riders to Conquer Temptation as well as Climb The Devil will be a part of the Tour of KC for the first time in its 40+ year history. The infamous Burlington Snake Alley Criterium which is part of the Iowa Memorial Day weekend race series has been famous, not only for its devilisly twisty climb, but for the twisted Devil that tempts racers to quit each time up the brutal climb.
News about the Tour of KC has gone out far and wide and The Devil sees an opportunity to tempt more poor souls yearning to quit every time they climb the leg numbing Cliff Drive Classic hill during Saturday’s race. http://www.tourofkc.com
