Team Kaos arrived at Omaha's Eppley Airfield at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.

San Juan, Puerto Rico – Team Kaos' return to the Tour of Puerto Rico was cut short before it began Tuesday when race promoters cancelled the international stage race fewer than 48 hours before it was set to begin.

“This is certainly not what we wanted to hear,” Team Kaos president Marco Vasquez said. "But we will remain here until we find out more details. There is talk of local racing teams putting on a shortened version of the race."

MarcoNews of the cancellation came during a press conference in San Juan at noon Tuesday. By then, some squads - including Team Kaos - had already begun arriving in the U.S. territory. More than 100 riders and 17 teams wer scheduled to start the four-day, five-stage event on Thursday.

Alexis Cruz, federation president, said the race organization failed to gather the $30,000 needed to cover expenses and prizes.

Hours later, Team Kaos' president Marco Vasquez was on the phone, trying to obtain more details about the unexpected cancellation of the race.
