The 2008 cycling season continues with the Norfolk Classic Road Race. Now in its third year, the Classic returns with the same classic road race route as in 2007.  Don't be left out in 2008! This year’s race features an increased prize list and free entry fee for junior racers who are annual license holders. Stay in Norfolk for the second day of the Norfolk Cycling Weekend for the Nebraska State Championship Criterium held in the now famous downtown Norfolk crit course.

    Entry fee includes USCF $2.00 surcharge.
    Riders must have USCF annual license OR purchase 1-day license.
    1-day licenses will be available for purchase at race site ($10.00).
    Junior riders who are annual license holders or who purchase an annual license receive free entry.*
    Juniors without an annual license must purchase a one-day license for $10.
    No “day-of” registration will be allowed or offered.
    * Junior racers should race under their respective category (i.e., a Junior Cat. 4 will race Men 4).

ONLINE: visit www.sportsbaseonline.com and register online. It is fast, secure and the preferred method of registration by the race organization.
Online registration opens Monday, May 19, 2008 @ 9:00am CST and closes @ 7:00pm (CST) on Friday, June 6, 2008.

MAIL: Send a completed STANDARD ATHLETE RELEASE FORM along with full payment to:

GENERAL RACE RULES & INFORMATION (USCF)

All 2008 USCF rules are in effect.
Events will be held rain or shine.
Race numbers: Saturday – right side. Sunday – right side. Race numbers must be upright and readable from the rider’s right when seated on the bike in racing position.

Issued number used for both racing days.
“Yellow line” rule strictly enforced in the road race.
Helmets must be worn at all times while on the bike.
Valid and current USCF license must be presented at registration.
Promoter reserves the right to adjust start times and mileage.
Promoter reserves the right to cancel/combine events and prize lists as necessary.

PLEASE NOTE: No more than 50% of the field will be awarded prizes.

Feed zone for Saturday’s Road Race is located in Stanton along Golf Course Road. There will be LIMITED neutral feed support. OUT-OF-TOWN RIDERS: please contact Race Director prior to race day to make arrangements for feed zone support.

All events will be “wheels in/wheels out.” There will be NO neutral wheel support for the road race or time trial. Mechanical neutral support (no wheels provided) will be available in the wheel pit for the criterium. Please make sure to identify your wheels properly. Promoter not be responsible for lost or stolen wheels.

ACCOMMODATIONS AND ATTRACTIONS

Norfolk offers many national chain motels and hotels such as Hampton and Holiday Inn Express, in addition to local favorites the Country Inn and Norfolk Lodge and Suites.

Race venues were selected to offer not only fantastic racing but also spectator friendly and family accessible facilities. Area parks, pools, and shops are easily accessible from start or staging areas. In addition, the Norfolk-Madison County Convention and Visitor's Bureau will again offer packets at sign-in with coupons and ideas for things to do in the area.

DIRECTIONS

Directions to Road Race Venue:
Road race starts and ends at the Stanton County Fairgrounds just south of Junction Highway 24 and 57 in Stanton. The Stanton public swimming pool is also located at the Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds and pool at both top facilities with visitor-friendly amenities and shaded picnic areas.

ROAD CLOSURES:

No roads will be closed to traffic for the road race. Yellow line rule strictly enforced.
However, the last ¼ mile of the finish for the road race will feature a complete road closure.

COURSE DETAILS

Road Race -- 10:00pm to 2:00pm
Stanton County Fairgrounds: Located 12 minutes southeast of Norfolk on Highway 24
The classic Stanton Road Race Route. Feared and revered for its hills and intensity. Road course begins at Stanton County Fairgrounds with neutral roll out south on Highway 57 and slightly east on Golf Course Road (835 ½ Road.) Race begins on Golf Course Road. Course continues east to Highway 15, then south on Highway 15 to Highway 32. Course turns right (West) on Highway 32 to Highway 57, then north back to Stanton. Categories with race length over 32 miles do multiple loops.
