Recreational Tour 8:30am $20
Join us for the second annual Babcook Family Research Fund Cycling Tour on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. for a fun bicycle ride from downtown Omaha to Boyer Chute and back. The course includes one significant climb and several smaller ones. A full course description is below. The purpose of the Babcook Family Research Fund is to raise funds and awareness for pancreatic cancer research at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center. Tour proceeds will benefit the Babcook Family Research Fund.
The $20.00 entry fee includes secondary insurance from USA Cycling. There will be drinks and fruit at the turn around points. A van operated by Bike Masters Cycling will provide mechanical assistance on the route, and experienced riders from Team Kaos will be leading and riding with the group to ensure a safe and fun ride. Wearing a helmet is required to ride on the tour.
The route is approximately 31 miles long over relatively flat terrain with the exception of two half-mile climbs at the 10 and 20 mile marks. The ride will start at 19th and Howard Streets and head north on 19th to Florence Boulevard. It continues North on Florence Blvd to John J. Pershing Drive. A left turn onto John J. Pershing Drive will take riders north under the Mormon Bridge and past N.P. Dodge Park. John J. Pershing Drive turns into North River Drive which will continue northbound to the turnaround point inside the Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge near Fort Calhoun. The ride returnsover the same roads until Florence Blvd splits into 19th & 20th Streets. Riders will then take 20th Street south and finish just before the Children’s Museum.
